So who better to start things off than our Hungarian lads, Tits & Clits, who just recently did a HUGE Podcast for Bopper Nation prior to the most recent Mr. Vega‘s.

Tits and Clits, one of our earliest, and biggest supporters, a group that if I personally owned a label right now and had investors at my disposable I would be in Hungary nabbing these guys and Americanizing em and then taking over the world with em. Might have to change their name to T & C, but we all know what it means anyways!

It was with our first and one of our earliest releases, the Tits and Clits remix of Daft Punks – Prime Time of Your Life that caught the attention of our main Man and Founding father of Bopper Nation, Felix Da Housecat. This tune earned a spot on his Essential Mix, released in 2009 on BBC. What else can I say about these boys, well to be simple minded, one of their more recent remixes released on the site today, has the word wolf and I love Wolves. But seriously Wolfmother is the shit….and damn right A New Moon is rising.

I’d like to also take this time to honor Malo and his label Giga Beat, he has also played a huge part in Bopper Nation, sending tunes of his own and sharing his Giga lads.

The King of the ‘Kickdrum’ is about to Kick off his Residential spot in Vegas, on Monday March 1st 2010.

David Gutierrez, the man who always gave Felix a home at the Palms, is now outside of the Palms with an outside of the box PERFECT plan that might just knock Perfecto off the map.

“It’s going to be a full-immersion experience,” he says. “This party essentially is going to be a Coney Island-style event. We’re going to make it look and feel like a big circus. When you walk in, there’ll be circus barkers out front; we’ll have a lot of performance pieces, choreographed numbers and also a lot of props.”

Upon entering Jet, he says there’ll be a hallway of fun-house mirrors. The vintage circus-inspired theme will be continued all throughout the nightclub in décor and performances. Right before Felix begins his set, a special video intro shot on green screen will play.”

“The first Cat’s Meow featuring Felix da Housecat will kick off at Jet on Monday, March 1. “For me it was really, really important to do it on a Monday at Jet because I wanted to give something special to the locals,” says Gutierrez. “Obviously on every Monday anyone industry that comes to the door with a valid Nevada ID gets in for free, so that was really important to me to get the support of the city and get them to come out.” And who doesn’t love a circus?!” [Read More]

Man oh Man. One hell of a show this weekend (1/23/09) in San Berny D with Felix Da Housecat and Junior Sanchez. Little did we know that both players would be unleashing some amazing tunes. Including a hot new tune from Junior Sanchez ‘They Live’ which will be available for stream only on Bopper Nation and a sneak peak at Felix Da Housecat’s Rudephoto release ‘Dark Room (Mr. Lightman).

It was my first time hearing Junior Sanchez at work and I have to say he had an awesome arsenal of tunes. I enjoyed his combination of multiple genres including some touch downs in Underground Hip Hop! There was no doubt that either of these two performers knew their music selection and in a way we got to have two sets back to back of both genius’ at work. With Junior playing tribute to Felix with Thin White Duke’s remix of ‘Silver Screen’ and then Junior later getting involved in Felix’s set picking out a couple tunes including the second to last tune of the night, ‘Knights of Cydonia’ by Muse.

Felix’s lineup included the classic tunes we all expect him to play each show, Elvi$, Kickdrum but then instantly he started pulling out tricks from his sleeve when he dropped a never before heard remix of Silver Screen. I turned to Steve Pross (Disco Pinata) to find out what this monster was and even he wasn’t aware. After the show though Felix did tweet out to DJ Chuckie about the remix so it’s only fair to assume he is responsible for this beast!

When Felix threw up Deadmau5 ‘FML’ I had to join him and Junior up in the booth and one deadly tune follows another and Felix Cartal’s ‘Drone’ is always a great way to tear up the audience! But once again Da Housecat decided to surprise us by breaking away from his usual arsenal of tunes and pulling out another hidden gem. This time it was CaTekk’s monster of a tune ‘Funny Little Clouds.’ He then took it back with Raven and brought in a little DJ Sneak.

It was an awesome night for Xmix Productions with Junior Sanchez (XMIX), Felix Da Housecat (XMIX) and songs from other Xmix Artist, DJ Sneak. But there was also some Old School favorites brought out for the evening, Daft Punk ‘Rolling & Scratching’ tore the audience up. Felix must have been feeling that mezcal and the audience was feeling the music because when Nirvana ‘Lithium’ dropped this hardcore heavy electrofried crowd was suddenly transported to the grunge of the 90′s and we all had to salute the man and pay tribute.

All in all it was a successful night and I hope everyone has moments to stop and appreciate great talent when it comes and stops by because there is a lot of cheese out of there in the electronic world and if you think you know good music you better open up your mind, stop and listen. And above all else prepare for Rudephoto, Felix closed that evening with ‘Darkroom ‘Mr Lightman’ and no joke that tune is good, but on a loud sound system in the wee hours of the night that tune is one massive monster tearing the audience apart bit by bit. But it’s truly that Underground Sound of Aphrohead, get ready 2010.

D.I.M. & TAI – Lyposuct
& so many people who made their list of 2009 favorites included Lyposuct…& with so many artist playing it out and none doing it better than Felix – one has to accept that D.i.M. & TAI teamed up to make something dangerous. In 2010 is it ok to ask, ‘Can they do it again!’

With over 80,000 people in attendance, the words MASSIVE are proper attire for the event that took place in Los Angeles on all Hallow’s Eve. In fact, so many people attended the event that two V.I.P. guests of mine couldn’t even get inside of the coliseum where Felix was playing and Raptor who also had V.I.P. passes could only view the performance from the stands of the coliseum. Despite all of this the rain and thunder of Felix Da Housecat’s massive performance still shattered and shook up the LA Ravers!

Anyone who has been fortunate enough to witness Felix’s performances knows that he IS everything a DJ should be and more. He knows exactly how to play off of the crowds energy and like any great performer he knows how to make the crowd play off of HIS energy. Every time that hallow barrel sounding drop of D.I.M. & TAI’s ‘Lyposuct’ emerges from his set, all sanity has exited the building and the participants have lost all control..the crowd is his. But it isn’t enough and when this Mad Scientist of a performer released the demon of Felix Cartal’s ‘Drone’ the venue itself is shaking and the listeners are too captivated by the music to care whether or not the coliseum will survive.

Out of many of the great songs at Felix’s disposal, ‘Kickdrum’ is one of the more memorable tracks and talking to anyone who has been to his show, each person remembers the instance it comes on and the kick that stirs up the crowd. From intimate venues, to medium sized ones and those venues like massive I can assure everyone that the level of his energy and passion in his playing is phenomenal.

Felix not only put on an amazing performance, but prior to doing so he invited me, bopper heartscreams, Automaic Panic, DJ Cat, Steve Pross, & our photographer to his hotel for a little pre-partying. Of course he had no obligation to do this and we were extremely grateful. Each of us was well taken care of and with our own drivers to and from the venue we couldn’t help but feel like royalty.

How long have you been a DJ/Producer and why did you get involved in this scene as opposed to other music careers or other professions?

Alexander Technique:
I started DJing when I was 15, soooooo that’s about 18 years, I know I’m kinda old!! Lol, but at least [I] keep shit fresh!!! Once I started there was no stopping, it was a true addiction.

I started off playing house then really got into hip hop & the turntablist thing. I really loved to cut shit up, [and] I was heavily influenced by Roc Raida (RIP), Sinista, Q-Bert & Stretch Armstrong….. I remember staying up mad late to listen to the Stretch & Bobbito Show on WKCR 89.9 & telling myself that I will DJ for the rest of life!! I really love those days……..

Bn: Name a specific person or persons [other than the ones previously mentioned] that have been a big influence and help along the way for you!

Al: My Parents no doubt, they got me my first set of tables & always told me to never give up & also my sister she used to play the illest Disco, Funk & Soul Classics ever as I was growing up!

Then I always gotta give props to my boy Juan C. from my hometown, I basically started DJing by watching him kill shit, dude was & still is noooo joke!!
Then I gotta give it up to Junior Sanchez (I used to just sit there & watch Junior, day & night make the sickest music….. that’s true raw talent right there & always ahead of his time, dude is a true master at his craft), & currently Larry Tee has to be the biggest influence I’ve had……. hands down!! Larry always has the best ideas when making music & it is such a pleasure to work with him!

Bn: How did you choose the name ‘Alexander Technique’ and does it have meaning to you or is it simply a ‘cool’ name?

Al: Actually I got that name cuz my girl at the time used to say I had the best technique when I used to do certain things to her!! lol I won’t really get into it… its a bit dirty & I’m sure nobody wants to hear!!

Bn: I’m almost afraid to ask the next question..But for fun and purely out of my own curiosity, what other jobs have you done along the way?

Al: I used to have a stripper car service job…lol I used to pick up strippers at their crib & take em to strip bars & then have to pick em up & take them home at [the] end of [the] night….. kinda stupid but I made an easy $800 to $1200 a week….. not bad for a 19 year old I guess…lol

[Label: DJs Are Not Rockstars]

Bopper Nation:
As we understand you founded the Label: “DJs Are Not Rockstars” Tell us about the label- where did you get the idea and how did it start?

Alexander Technique:
Well after I stopped touring under the name “DJs Are Not Rockstars” with Princess Superstar, I decided that I wanted to use the name for a label especially since everything was going the digital route.

I basically thought it would be cool to be able to put out my own stuff along with my friends stuff & not have to wait for someone else to do it. My first release in Feb. of 2009 was “Nightlovers” feat. Van Scott it was a blog smash [and] it had some really cool remixes by Chewy Chocolate Cookies, Nick Catchdubs (Fools Gold), Acid Jacks & a re-edit of the CCC remix by MSTRKRFT, which is insane.

Then that was followed up with a release by Junior Sanchez & Felix Da Housecat (had to keep FE’s name on the low.. lol) called “ZAXXON” which was a definite BANGER, it also had a remix by Junior & I….. My release Rock U Feat. Princess Superstar followed right after & so on.

Bn: Who else helped DJs Are Not Rockstars grow- name some key players involved in its success?

Al: My first real release was going to be Lauren Flax Feat. Sia “You’ve Changed” (which was pushed into March) but I was totally stopped by my managers (Mark Davenport & Marci Weber) in March at WMC about 2 days before it dropped, they were like “HELL NOOOO” that track needs heavy promotion & its gonna have to wait!! They totally schooled me…lol then I understood why record labels took a while before they released stuff & I instantly asked them to be my label partners along with Larry Tee who hooked me up with them in the first place. Then I just kept finding some really great music to put out & here we are 9 months later with 10 releases & a shit load of heavy hitters coming your way!!!

I thought it was gonna be easy but its really not, it involves a lot of time & help, don’t think just because its mostly digital now it is easy! You’re gonna be in for a big surprise!!! I would like to give a big thanks to my managers Mark & Marci, Larry Tee, Junior Sanchez, Van Scott & Jad Cooper (Drlkt Freddie), Seed Music Dist., my brother Pete Lips, Darious & Ivo (Probus) without there help & guidance this would not be possible!

Bn: Besides getting this awesome label off the ground, what are some other big achievements/accomplishments that have already been achieved with the label thus far?

Al: I think I will be able to tell you more about that towards the end of our first year! But so far its been GREAT, our tracks have been getting play all over the world by Crookers, Mstrkrft, Steve Aoki, Felix Da Housecat & many many more & we also have been getting lots of love from the UK on Radio 1 by Pete Tong & Annie Mac!!… I’m really happy with all of our artists, DJs & remixers, they are all mega talented, it has been nothing but a pleasure to work with them!!

[Collaborative Projects: Blogula and Tropikill]

Bopper Nation:
I’ve always known people who work in independent fields to be a different animal than the more commonly ‘team player.’ How does someone who works successfully as an independent artist get involved in collaborative projects such as Blogula and Tropikill?

Alexander Technique:
I love collaborating, its so much fun, especially when you’re working with someone who is NOT a grumpy fucker! This is why I chose to work with Larry Tee on “BLOGULA” & Kassiano on “TROPIKILL”. They’re both so easy going & fun to work with & that’s why we get stuff done really fast!

Bn: How does one work together on piecing a song or mix? Is the work split right down the middle, does one person do the bassline, is the song divided in sections?

Al: With Larry [Blogula] it’s a piece of cake that dude always has all of his ideas in his head & they’re always GENIUS! With his great mind always thinking of sounds & samples & me always blasting away with effects & trickery madness on the computer we’re unstoppable! With Kassiano [Tropikill] its about the same except we usually get beers & mad girls to come over & chill while we work…. so of course it takes a little longer to get stuff done!! Lol.

Bn: I know there has to be some obstacles in working with another creative individual, how do you overcome those obstacles? What if one person loves the song and the other person hates it, does it get tossed on the back burner or do you work out a compromise?

Al: I always compromise, Larry always compromises & Kassiano always compromises that’s just another reason why I picked them for these projects (Blogula & Tropikill)

I understand in today’s DJ world we have the technological alternatives to lugging around a vinyl collection. Assuming you are Serato based, do you still lug around any vinyls (maybe tunes that can’t be found digitally)?

Alexander Technique:
Nah, I haven’t touched vinyl in like 5 years now, its kinda sad never thought that would be possible, but I really believe that we have to move with the times & Serato Scratch is the best thing that ever happened to a DJ since the Technic 1200′s……… so far I have been able to find most tracks I have on vinyl on mp3…… so its all good!!!

Bn: When you DJ do you have a set that you play off of or do you spin from your whole library collection or both?

Al: I play off my library…… I never been a fan of setting up a set list, a lot of new cats do that & I think its whack!! They end up sounding the same at every gig!!!

Felix Da Housecat – We All Wanna Be Prince (Chewy Chocolate Cookies Remix)

It has been three weeks since this song was released on youtube and the feedback that Chewy Chocolate Cookies received was tremendous! This track was made by Chewy Chocolate Cookies as a gift to Felix Da Housecat & Gift to the Bopper Nation! I just want to add that this is it as far as Prince Remixes go. The original is great, we had a couple really amazing remixes from the contest: Disco Villains, Amplid, the winners etc. But after this it is time to move onto the the next Felix Da Housecat single, ‘LA Ravers!’ Thank you Chewy Chocolate Cookies, for not only sharing your world with the Bopper Nation in music, but also giving us a place to stay when we visit!
