Get Funky Get Down

Word up Boppers!

Here are some new jams to make your week better. Some crushing techno by the kings of French House – Daft Punk and a classic House jam.

mercurius fm mondays Get Funky Get Down-

First up we have a monster techno remix made by our Neon-Robot-Gods, Daft Punk. Check out this 1997 goodness right here. Such a hard beat and an interesting rhythm. This is a good track to pull out if you want the dancefloor to transform into Berlin circa 1997.

Micronauts - Get Funky Get Down (Daft Punk Remix)

-

Next up we have a real classic House jam, dating back to 1992. Features a rather standard House Music format and a classic recognizable synth line. The name of the game is making you move and this is a track that did just that. You can also cop the Tommy Sunshine edit here.

Back 2 Love

Word up boppers.

I spent some time this weekend working on remixes, one of which I gave a nice funky baseline and lowpassed the whole track for the breakdown. Reminded me of the ol’ French House days. Which brings us to this post. :)

mercurius fm mondays Back 2 Love

The Fairlight CMI

-

Our first track is a Daft Punk bootleg released on white label in 2000. It was on a release called Stronger which featured one other mix if this song and 2 club mixes of Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger. Nice production here and cool vocals in the middle. But is it truly a Daft Punk made track?

Daft Punk - Don't Believe the Hype (Mix 1)

-

Next up is a mega tune by one of my personally favorite producers, Lifelike. Its his own remix of his club hit The Soul of My Love. The original is of course classic, on par with the mega french house hits of its time such as Around The World, Music Sounds Better With You and Sound of Violence. But this particular mix is as if Lifelike looked into a crystal ball and predicted the next few years of dance music. Check out his new record label called Computer Science.

See you soon!

Syncopated

Hi Boppers.

To start off the week, I will bless you with some refreshing House Music.

mercurius fm mondays Lion2BAR0602 800x626 Syncopated

-

First, we have a nice, long, repetitive dance tune by half-Daft’s, Le Knight Club. Its a remix of the Japanese electronic producer Fantastic Plastic Machine. The great thing about this remix, as with most Le Knight Club production, is how warm and syncopated it is, yet packing a tight thumpy kick in the mix. Fun track for sure.

Fantastic Plastic Machine - Philosophy (Le Knight Club Remix)

-

So if that last track wasn’t enough, now I have a remix of French House master’s Cassius, by international producer extraordinaire, Stuart Price… aka Les Rythmes Digitales. Super beat coupled with a super bassline, featuring a super funk sample. Its a win win situation for us all.

Cassius - Feeling For You (Les Rythmes Digitales Dreamix Short Remix)

-

Thats it for now folks. In the horizon, I’m planning a new post for BN that will feature new music produced the way I like it. Also, another shameless self plug, check out my remix of Kavinsky’s NIGHTCALL. Its for his remix contest with Record Makers.

Legends

Hey Boppers.

Yet another installment of Mercurius FM Monday. Dropping some big boys here.

mercurius fm mondays jimmy page led zeppelin Legends-

This is Daft Punk’s debut release. As you can hear, its the perfect precursor to their monster album, Homework. This is a very aggressive techno track which builds up slowly into a hard hitting banger. Its worth mentioning, that this track is an early version of Alive. Very fun and minimal production make this a good hitter for techno-heads.

Daft Punk - The New Wave (Daft Punk Edit)

-

Next up we have a remix of legendary rock band, Led Zeppelin. This remix is by Dirty Funker who has a good rep for remixing rock classics into Ibiza ready floor slayers. I normally hate remixes of songs like this, but found this one to be acceptable if not wholly enjoyable due to the fact that it kept the feeling and overall tone of the original.

Led Zeppelin - Whole Lotta Love (Dirty Funker Club Mix)

-

Finally in closing, I will plug my own remix of Kavinsky’s hit single, NIGHTCALL. You can listen to it below. I made for the remix contest is he having in part with Record Makers.

Schizofonics in 2010

artistandmusic 5 Schizofonics in 2010

Prior to Bopper Nation, Schizofonics had found its way into my ear early in 2009 and upon Bopper Nations first awakening Schizofonics dropped some sick tunes and mega support. Now it’s 2010 and Schizofonics drops a remix of Da Funk to remember. Now we’ve all heard Daft Punk remixes and there will always be Daft remixes but this Schizo rework gets me moving as it crunches its way across the floor.

Schizofonics - Da Schizofunk

Especially at 2 minutes 36 in, man that high pitched shit always makes me lose my mind and gives me that natural high while I’m grooving and then Da Funks synth comes back in to take it home. Enough hype listen for yourself and let the music be your ride.

and in case you don’t know about Schizo yet..
Schizofonics - Blipstick
“Schizofonics are Shortie and M. 2 DJs/Producers from Dublin, Ireland. Since forming in ’08 the boys have been gaining a lot of attention. Summer ’09 saw their remix of Queen’s ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ hit the number 1 spot on Hype Machine’s chart on 2 separate occasions and it’s now a regular feature in sets from people like Basement Jaxx, Kissy Sellout and Annie Mac.

They followed this up with a dancehall infused banger featuring Fool’s Gold’s Lady Chann which quickly gained a lot of pace over the internet and found it’s way onto Dim Mak’s soon to be released Mix CD by Mustard Pimp and their club favorite remix of Count & Sinden’s ‘Mega’.
Their latest offering sees them take on yet another classic and put the Schizo stamp on it. Barely a week old, the tune is already being played by the likes of Detboi and longtime supporter Kissy Sellout.
’10 sees the release of Schizofonic’s debut EP ‘EightyEight’ on Mr.Jones records. A 5 track EP featuring 4 original tracks showing off their range of production skills and music influences. Oh and there’s also the small matter of a remix on there by Brighton’s High Rankin.”

Hello 2010

artistandmusic article 1239607 07BB6524000005DC 760 964x661 300x205 Hello 2010

Major Lazer - Pon De Floor (Chewy Chocolate Cookies Remix)

Happy New Years Bopper Nation!
2010 a new decade, it is our decade. Wherever you are tonight/today make it last! Our painful decade of political follies, war, recession, celebrity deaths is over. Until of course we litter 2010 with new ones! Just kidding.

Massive Tunes that shook us Hard.

Felix Cartal – Drone
Every time this mechanical beast is unleashed I am at awe. I’ve probably listened to this song more times than I should, put it on the back-burner and let it reemerge and it still feels like my first time listening to it every time.

Felix Da Housecat – Kickdrum
(in the words of Lil’ Feezy “An unbelievably simple and effective track. One of those ‘why didn’t I think of that?’ moments for me.” – (felixcartal.com)

Boys Noize – Starter
When the Starter/Jeffer package emerged I was insanely anxious for POWER, but worried these two tunes would dominate everything else on the cd. Well they certainly cast a huge shadow – but then again POWER is full of so many great tunes and Transmission is continually growing into a monster – cannot wait to hear the remixes

D.I.M. & TAI – Lyposuct
& so many people who made their list of 2009 favorites included Lyposuct…& with so many artist playing it out and none doing it better than Felix – one has to accept that D.i.M. & TAI teamed up to make something dangerous. In 2010 is it ok to ask, ‘Can they do it again!’

Major Lazer – Pon De Floor (Chewy Chocolate Cookies)

& with so many remixes out there I have to pay tribute to one song that was just remixed so right that it completely crushed the original – in my opinion. This just in, song won [ details here ].

Daft Punk – Prime Time of Your Life (Tits & Clits Remix)
& in the silence of Daft Punk, with only small leaks of TRON tracks. How can we not appreciate Tits & Clits for bringing it back. Wishing you all a Happy New Year in the Prime Time of Your Life!

Happy Festivus and Other Stuff

Happy Holidays to all the Boppers!

Today, we have quite the post… mostly Daft Punk related, but thats not a bad thing, right?

artistandmusic IMG 1053 1 Happy Festivus and Other Stuff

Here is a fantastic live version of Daft Punk’s Rock’n Roll. Its from 1997, recorded at Le Rex Club in Paris. Back then, the boys used to go on stage with about 7 grand worth of equipment and no computers. Everything was just MIDI synced, basically recreating their studio setup. When I make a techno tune this is exactly where I’m coming from.

Daft Punk - Rockn' Roll (Live @ Rex Club)

Next up is a Christmas themed House track by none other than Le Knight Club. You know I’m real keen on these tracks and normally I wouldn’t be so heavy on them, but given the season, I’m ok with it.

Le Knights Club - Santa Claus

Finally, as a treat for the Holidays, I turned to my personal Disco source, the one I call when I need a new sample, my fellow funkateer, Melissa B, for a special holiday Disco groove.

Larry Dixon - So Gifted

As she puts it…
It makes you feel special and unique. It lifts you up to where you should always be I think. Well at least me, it makes me happy.

Everyone have a safe and happy holiday. I know sometimes stuff gets tough, but try to be happy with what you have. Most importantly, be happy that you’re alive, because in the end, you’ve only got yourself and thats the greatest gift of all.
