Major House

Hey Bopperz.

Good to be back after a week off (in Vegas). Had some good times last week at Felix’s show. This week, we get back to House trax.

Our first track is a remix of Eddie Amador’s classic House anthem, “House Music”. DJ Sneak takes the track and makes a really jacked up Chicago version with a new baseline and tough drums. The mix is quite long and covers a few different sounds.

Finally, we a track which came out in 1996 from Da Mongoloids only EP. This is of particular significance because it appears recently they’ve come back together, at the very least for DJing. If you don’t know who Da Mongoloids are, they are super collective of House artists and you can learn more here.

Ghetto Blasting

Yo Boppers!

Hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving (Thats a month late for you Canadians, sorry). For this post, I’d like to bring in some more House with a hip hop twist. Since dance tracks with rap on them is taking over the radio, lets take a look at a couple of the steps it took to get there. Let me first say that this was a huge pain in the ass to choose just 2 tracks to showcase.

So, first off, no one better to mention than Armand Van Helden, New York City based House music pioneer and one of the creators (if not the creator) of speed garage. He’s dabbled in practically everything and fused it with House music and this track is titled perfectly for this post. He also expanded this concept into a much more fleshed out and highly recommended album.

Next up, French House favorites, Cassius with their contribution to the House/tech/rap sound. This track features Ghostface Killah, who later went on to release a dance remix EP and a track that I playlist, “Word Up” with my friends MSTRKRFT. The synths are particularly noteworthy.
