The things you expect for the best: Mezcal shots, str8 Oldschool tunes and PRINCE. The unexpected things that make it better. The 11th Floor of the Hard Rock Hotel, Avalon’s own bottled water, Limited Edition Sparkling Vodka, Mezcal bar, Grum & The Twelves @ Voyeur?! & a New Bopperretta (from my own home town)!

Friday night I went down to LA, hit up Red Rock and Viper Room, but Saturday is when the fun really began. First Kngtrdr & I hit up Venice Beach, saw Jimi Hendrix reincarnated, then we went and killed time at the Rainforest (Hookah lounge/bar/pizza) while we waited for the real real fun! which didn’t began in LA until we met up with Felix at Las Perlas an exciting, new and exquisite Mezcal bar with many mezcal things on the menu such as ‘illegal mezcal,’ but stuck to those $45 shots that made our precious Scorpion Mezcal & the exquisite $70′Crystal’ taste like the worm.
Our Bopper crue included the normal entourage: Steve Pross, Chris Strictland & their gang. Plus an Added bonus, Amir from Circuit Freq (who had played the night before with LA Riots) and our old/but new Bopperretta Bebe & Her mother, along with King & myself. New to the LA gang was Erika, from the Avalon. Guess someone knew what a great time the Boppers were gonna have so they wanted to take part? Later, she stated her real purpose was to keep an eye on Felix and make sure everything went smoothly. So 30 minutes prior to Felix’s original set time (1am) we made our way over to the Avalon, stage coach and all.

Once at the show we were sent down to Felix’s VIP area..strawberries, pineapple, raspberries, water (Avalon’s very own), redbull & mezcal. While Felix prepped for his show, we caught up with DJ Cat and other friends. The drinking continued until it was time for the King to approach his throne. The crowd was more than ready, but Felix was UNTOUCHABLE! Tune after tune transitioned smoothly making the whole set into one four hour long song. Felix stuck to his roots and broke away from the sets I had heard before, set which included more ‘electro’ tunes and mixed in a little bit of the house and old school roots.
Saturday it was House & Old School Tunes with a hint of Electro’s finest (Drone!) not to mention a couple classix tunes featuring Diddy (Jack U). But the most impressive part was hearing tunes that I haven’t heard before. (Most shows these days are made up of all catchy tunes, bangers, electro hits and hype machine top charters) but Felix once again set himself a part from the rest! *massive moments, PROXY – RAVEN, and the vocals of JACK…In the beginning there was JACK!

Things were a bit hectic up on stage with all the people who were allowed to be there, but weren’t really boppers and I decided that I needed to experience a Felix Da Housecat performance the proper way…crammed in the crowd and dead center. When Felix Dropped Kickdrum the bass sucked in the audience and popped their bodies like balloons. My ears start ringing just thinking about the experience, but my feet can’t stop dancing! The crowd was nuts and although Felix’s set stretched out for hours the audience never once died out and the venue itself stayed PACKED until the very end (which is rare for the Avalon). Hilarious moment to remember #after the first 2 hours Felix said 2 more songs, then another half hour later, felix again said 3 more songs and lord and behold 4 hours later he was still going.
Intermission (En Route to San Diego)

The next show the following DAY (Sunday) took place at the top of the Hard Rock Hotel. Labeled INTERVENTION, the GO GO dancers wore nurse looking outfits and the bar-tending girls went around with syringes full of alcohol *$6 shots. The venue was pretty commercial and I noticed all San Diego males look the same. Very BRO friendly, Jockey looking fellows *see photo below…and done up girls…so I was quite pleased when TAT’d up GO GO dancers posted up next to the stage and it was nice to see. It was a good site for my tired eyes and although the venue was a little light upon first arrival it started to FILL up as we rounded 4pm (Felix’s set time) and then the more interesting people started to flood the venue as well. The weather was fair and I realized that it was my first time seeing Felix perform in the daylight…King and I were curious as to whether or not he would still do his “MR Lightman”…but the only Light Man that day was god and Felix just stuck to his set, with less than 2 hours sleep from the heavy night before.

His San Diego set was similar to the LA set, but still fresh and different. Some artist have a PRE set and they play the SAME damn songs in the SAME order EVERY time…Felix sets aren’t like that at all and it makes back to back shows stay just as interesting and fresh as can be every. *We had one wild drunk guy sneak backstage and it made me remember my unfortunate time at Monster Massive…Mr. Pete Tong I do apologize for meeting you so blasted…anyways I was quite controlled during the San Diego show *we already had that guy present and he wasn’t me. I added champagne to my Mezcal (as recommended by Chris Strictland “It makes it pop!) I tried recommending this to Felix whose only answer, ‘Fuck You!’ lol…I think i desecrated his holy drink!
After Felix’s set we ended up in Chris’ hotel room, then briefly sat at Mary Jane, then Went to Nobu (Sushi) where I told a waitress that she had beautiful teeth. Felix hooked Kngtrdr & I up fat with our own room on the 11th floor of the Hard Rock Hotel. I was more than ecstatic and after our night was winding down I was convinced to go find ladies to get into our room and called up Steve Pross so that we could go to Voyeur where The Twelves and Grum were playing!? I don’t remember…I found myself quite tired by the time we made it out to the club and ended up going back to the room after being there for less than a half hour. After ordering french fries I ended up crashing out…BTW the TV in the room had REPO MAN and Shutter Island on it…I thought that those movies weren’t even out in theaters yet?
Some crazy limited edition sparkling bottle of Vodka, Hard Rock Hotel key, bracelets, stamps & memories. A great drive back to LA, interesting conversations. FOOD recap: Tommy’s Burgers in LA (Chili Cheese burgers soo damn good), Some Yellow building place in LA with an exquisite grilled cheese sandwhich (mozzarella, goat cheese, tomatoes), NOBU (i’m sure it was amazing sushi, i was a little inebriated at the time and unable to eat…but I’m sure it was DAMN good).
Voyeur in San Diego..is the place to be. All the people from Intervention on SunDAY were there at Voyeur NIGHT and last time I was in San Diego (Bloody beetroots, those goers were once again all at Voyeur afterwards)…so if you are in San Diego and looking for ‘the place’ head on over to Voyeur and you will be more than satisfied. Other than being called Ferris Bueller by Felix I’d rate the event an 11 out of 10. I highly recommend making it to any/all Felix shows in your area…take it from someone who has followed him around in & out of California…each show has it’s own separate magic and there is never, EVER a dull moment with Felix…last time in Vegas Felix ended up bringing the ‘Light man’ out with us to partake in our activities!
