So last night was the nights of all nights: I was finally going to witness Felix's greatness life! And even though I already expected a lot, I got much more!
After a long trainride, some window shopping, haging out at the fast food court of the central station and a whole lot "Where the funk am I right now!?!"* I finally arrived at the Bootshaus, where the party was about to start. Unfortunately Brian Lindsay couldn't make it because of the weather ("Snowstorm central", as Felix called it) and so I was all alone that night. Well, not that alone, because it turned out that an old friend of mine worked there and while I unfortunately couldn't hang out with him all night long, it was nice to see him again and tell him who Felix Da Housecat is.(Why was he my friend again?)
Anyway, the first DJ of the night was okay, but it took around 1 1/2 hours until I really warmed up to what he played. Then I already saw Felix at the DJ Booth. Glad he could make it. It would have sucked if his plane couldn't land because of the weather or something like that. I didn't really remember the time, but I think around 1:30am he started to spin (http://img109.imageshack.us/img109/176/bootshausloonyland4.jpg )and from then all hell broke lose! Pretty early in his set he played ELVI$ and the people in front of the DJ Booth STARTED A MOSH PIT!!! The were jumping, screaming, crashing into each other and had a blast!
Let me say something about the crowd. One of the reasons why I don't go out as much as I should, is because many clubbers are assholes. You start do dance and accidently bump someone with your elbow and they go: "How DARE you to touch me and now even LOOK at me and to make things worse TALK to me and apologize!" But these people last night, were real Boppers! Enjoying each other, jumping, screaming, complete strangers were improvising silly dance moves and started to cheer certain parts of the set with collective "Hey! Hey! hey!" screams!
And Felix? You know Felix. He's not someone who stands still and ignores what's going on around him. He was cheering, waving, giving out high fives and hand shakes and even tried to talk with some of the dancers! Of course the talking part was a little bit difficult for everybody. I just shouted to him "Boppernation!" a few times, but he had no idea what I was trying to say. :D
And Loonyland did their best to make this evening even crazier. Just look at the dancers who suddenly appeared! (http://img651.imageshack.us/img651/523/bootshausloonyland19.jpg ) BTW, this guy (http://img651.imageshack.us/img651/6852/bootshausloonyland15.jpg ) took my hat and dropped it on Felix's CD Player. It's missing since then. (But it's okay, it was a cheap hat anyway.)
Although I'm in some circles known as "Chief Neverdancesinpublic" I danced my ass off last night. It was impossible to not dance! There even was one point where I was almost fainting from exhaustion, but after going to the bar, drinking something and chewing some ice cubes, everything was okay again. Although a woman obviously tried to hit on me. Every week women suddenly talk to me about my hair (seriously!) which I haven't cut in 11 years (seriously!), and some of them are even touching it, but this was the first time that a woman was gently stroking it! (But I love my girlfriend, so she didn't have a chance.)
Around 3-3:30am Felix was done (I think) and even though I wanted to stay the whole night, the DJ after him annoyed me way too much (Just a matter of personal taste). So I left and started an Odyssey home (Stepped into the first train at 3:50, arrived home at 8!). It was a wonderful night and I don't regret anything, although despite my ear plugs, my left ear is still beeping and I can't move my neck or my legs.
I didn't take many photos, just because it was difficult to get the camera out while everybody was pushing you around, but here are some from virtualnights.com. (http://koeln.virtualnights.com/pictures/gallery/9076356 & http://koeln.virtualnights.com/pictures/gallery/9085368 ) And no, you won't see me on any single one of them, even though there are lots of photos from the area where I was dancing and even some pics were taken right in front of me. I guess I wasn't pretty enough. (Next time send a female photographer. They love the hair!)
*Note: Google Maps is very helpful, but only if the city where you are, labels its streets properly. And Cologne seems to lacks lots of street signs. Not to mention that for any reason I manage to ALWAYS go in the wrong direction first and have to turn around after 15 minutes or so :P
