Shooting Judas by Shark Attack
Shooting Judas was released in June of 2009 and nearly five months later tracks are still being remixed and making headway on the scene. The first track, ‘Creation ex Nihilo’ is the perfect opening track. ‘Northern City Riot’ is a perfect reflection of helplessness and fear with it’s high pitched and violent screech..but so much maturity with the breaks placed in between. One moment its rough and mean and then we are catching our breaths again!
I slowly feel the waters turning and by the time, ‘This Way, I know a Short Cut’ comes on can already feel the rhythmic circling of the dorsal fin as the Shark begins to move closer. I found the CD/Album/Release (whatever’s more appropriate these days) to be very well balanced. The first half is mainly without vocals and contains the heavy set dance beats us electro junkies crave, but with an original twist..find me another group like Shark Attack, I don’t think you can.
Once you reach the first hump and start heading over the other side of the tracks starting with ‘Tonight the Ambulance is Not for Us’ the waters are calmer and beautiful vocals emerge and I almost forget how completely different the first part of the album was until ‘Ghost Knives’ comes on and now we are mixing the 1st parts heavy dark tones with the second halves lyrical soul.
Talking about coming full circle..I miss albums being put together so professionally and illustrating so much thought in their creation. I usually have to go dig out my Pink Floyd albums if I want a compilation of tracks to tell me a story!

Quick little Background Info:
Shark Attack hails from San Diego and has played with many great performers including, but not limited to mstrkrft, steve aoki, deadmau5, mgmt, nadastrom, toxic avenger, bloody beetroots and chromeo! In 2008 they won the San Diego Music Award for Best DJs and their album was nominated for the SDMA for Best Recording!
Mike Delgado, Patrick Heaney operate Shark Attack as DJs and when they play live as a band they add Aaron Blomberg. Their live set is Mike Delgado – bass, Patrick Heaney – keys, Aaron Blomberg – guitar/vox. Live Band and DJ duo, sound like a unique, but familiar thing? (soulwax/2manydjs)!
*Bonus
One thing I shouldn’t at all fail to mention is that many artist have been having a go at remixing the tunes from the release ‘Shooting Judas,’ one of those we had the exclusive for previously on the site ‘Ghost Knives’ (remixed by Disco Villains) [click here if you missed it]
