The Cat’s Meow

I’m generally an excited and open guy who loves to share, but since I’ve been operating Bopper Nation I’ve had some MAJOR secrets that were meant to be kept until the last possible moment when I knew for sure they could be shared..

The King of the ‘Kickdrum’ is about to Kick off his Residential spot in Vegas, on Monday March 1st 2010.

David Gutierrez, the man who always gave Felix a home at the Palms, is now outside of the Palms with an outside of the box PERFECT plan that might just knock Perfecto off the map.

“It’s going to be a full-immersion experience,” he says. “This party essentially is going to be a Coney Island-style event. We’re going to make it look and feel like a big circus. When you walk in, there’ll be circus barkers out front; we’ll have a lot of performance pieces, choreographed numbers and also a lot of props.”

Upon entering Jet, he says there’ll be a hallway of fun-house mirrors. The vintage circus-inspired theme will be continued all throughout the nightclub in décor and performances. Right before Felix begins his set, a special video intro shot on green screen will play.”

“The first Cat’s Meow featuring Felix da Housecat will kick off at Jet on Monday, March 1. “For me it was really, really important to do it on a Monday at Jet because I wanted to give something special to the locals,” says Gutierrez. “Obviously on every Monday anyone industry that comes to the door with a valid Nevada ID gets in for free, so that was really important to me to get the support of the city and get them to come out.” And who doesn’t love a circus?!” [Read More]

Remix, Remake & Sequel: The Safety Net

Aw Not Again?

editorial 2169050955 8834aa0d41 300x225 Remix, Remake & Sequel: The Safety Net

Even without a remix competition, there are some tracks that are remade over and over and over and over again. How many ‘A Milli,’ ‘Hustlin’,’ ‘Poker Face’/s need to be made before we can move on? Why are we so drawn to selling and buying the same product over and over again? Is it simply because, ‘It works?’

Halloween was just last month, marking the 6th installment of SAW, so the music industry isn’t the only form of entertainment that is being cursed with the business safety approach of reselling a product that has already been sold. I mean we all agree that there are only so many stories out there, only so many different chord progressions and variations of kickdrums and snares…but it is one thing to build off a sample from a song and another thing to continue remaking or remixing the same song.

Especially if the person is no longer creating out of their love for music, but for their greed to get BIGGER. If that is all that matters than sure..be my guest go remix Jay-Z, Passion Pit, Miike Snow & XX. Do it right and you’re now in the top 10 to Hypem. (No offense to any artist who remixes these people and no offense to these artist..I listen to them all..that is why they were chosen as my example).

Stay focused, the issue is NOT the artist the issue is not REMIXES, the issue is ABUSING the Remix.

I am not going to lie. I love to ‘Pon De Floor’ but I am sick of hearing remixes of it and I cut that track HUGE slack because they just had a remix competition..it was bound to happen. But La Roux, ‘Bulletproof,’ ‘In For the Kill’ & ‘I’m Not Your Toy’ is DONE. And yes, I may have my favorite remixes from each of those mentioned, but I don’t care who remixes it next, I don’t want to hear it.

NOOB & Brodinski - Peanuts Club (Buttonmasher Remix)

Now some songs deserve remixing, just as some movies need to be remade. I almost feel that songs like ‘Peanuts Club’ were purposely meant to be remixed, Buttonmasher’s remix is the sh!t. And I have also have found a lot of remixes to be an improvement on some original songs…in fact, I would NEVER listen to Uffie’s ‘Pop the Glock,’ but I WILL play that SebastiAn Remix until it is dead! So I get that and I love to hear another artist take their perspective and spin on a song produced by somebody else. And I can swear to you that some artist PREFER remixes of their tracks to the originals they themselves made! Listen to Tiga talk about his Shoes & What You Need remixes in his podcast!

What can we do? It is safer and easier for those in the Entertainment Industry, be it people selling/making Movies/Music, to remake, remix & sequel a product that has already done exceptionally well than for them to go out on a limb and try to push a brand new product. The economy is SHIT. I think someone should make a graph for me..I bet during all economic downfalls Remixes, Remakes and Sequels are on the RISE. So I feel for you, the businessmen and women and the artist…we all have to feed our families.
