Da Change

Yo Boppers.

mercurius fm mondays Da Change

First up we’re going back to the early 90s vinyl days… here is a classic tune by Romanthony. This is a great track, both for listening and the dancefloor. This track was original coupled with Hold On, a similar track that was later rereleased on Thomas Bangalter’s label.

Romanthony – Da’ Change (Vocal Vamp Remix)

-

This next track is a 80s infused remix by Alan Braxe & Fred Falke. Quite aggressive sounding for their usual sound but still lush and dynamic. This is a great track for those who love electric baselines.

Super bass

Hey Boppers.

mercurius fm mondays Super bass

We’re starting your week off with a Paul Johnson remix of CZR. We all know this classic tune (and if you don’t, now you do), Paul just gives it some extra punch and loopiness for maximum dancefloor satisfaction.

CZR – Chicago Southside (Paul Johnson’s Dancin Up A Storm Mix)

-

Next up we have a mega bassline remix of Sebastien Leger by Superfunk. This track takes the classic loop from the original song and then pumps it up with some jack drums and funky disco bass. Good tune to drop even now a days. Timeless sound.

Classic Sounds

Yo Boppers.

mercurius fm mondays Classic Sounds

First up we’ve got some Roy Ayer’s proto/early House. This track has a very jazzy composition with repetitive lyrics overdubbed. Classic sounding and classic in every way. Nice classic tune.

Roy Ayers – Fast Money

-

Next track, we have some early “techno” by Derrick May. You could easily throw this in on a modern dancefloor and it would probably still be effective. Fun track with lots of classic sounds. Good times.

This Is Not A Love Song

Hey Boppers.

You may have noticed there was no Mercurius FM Monday this week. We will resume normal posting again next week. I took a break off this week to announce Felix’s new album. Also I wanted to make an announcement for my first official remix release which just came out on PACHA RECORDINGS. Its a remix of dance music veteran AZZIDO DA BASS.

Across The Universe

Word up Boppers.

mercurius fm mondays Across The Universe

The first track today is some tasty Chicago House by the jack master, DJ Sneak. The original version has a fun female vocal, but I went with the instrumental today because its still very good. This track was released only about 5 years ago, yet it has a sort of timeless sound. When most were pumping out grinding basslines, Sneak was keeping it smooth and funky.

DJ Sneak – Funk Erotica (Instrumental Mix)

-

Speaking of basslines, this next track is by Raw Man. Featuring tons of real guitar riffs, a funk drenched rhythm section and a Hendrixesque lead solo, not to mention a totally grooving bassline. This is a wonderful track full of great tunes and complexity.

I’ll House U

Hey Boppers.

Going way back today with these tracks.

mercurius fm mondays Ill House U

First up is Armand Van Helden’s remix of Da Funk, which was released in 1995. Daft Punk also used bits of this remix for their live show back then. I think its pretty cool that Daft Punk seeked out remixes by their favorite producers and basically helped them become more known. Cool things happening in this very extended mix.

Daft Punk – Da Funk (Armand Van Helden’s “Ten Minutes of Funk” Mix)

-

Next up is an even older classic by the Jungle Brothers circa 1988. This is a track that sampled other tracks of the time such as Todd Terry’s Can You Party which samples Move your Body by Marshall Jefferson and Can You Feel It by Mr Fingers aka Larry Heard and more… Funny how its all interconnected, but this track brings to it new vocals. Nice party tune.

Nice-N-Fast

Hey Boppers.

Buckle up for some more oldies but goodies.

mercurius fm mondays Nice N Fast

The first track today is a remix of Stuart Price’s band, Zoot Woman. But not just any remix, the Todd Edwards remix. This track features Todd Edwards’ signature sample cuts and vocal arrangement. Good fun if you feel like dropping some UK garage.

Zoot Woman – Taken It All (Todd Edwards ‘Soul Line’ Radio Vocal Remix)

To wrap things up we have a track from Paul Johnson from some time in the mid 90s. Discogs doesn’t list an actual year this came out, but it sounds like its mid 90s. Its got some ghetto House sounds but no actual vocals. Lots of big sound coming out of this one. Lets also all give well wishes to Paul as he recently suffered an accident which has hospitalized him.
