Lovers Rock

Happy Valentine’s Day Bopperz.

Today I’ve got some pretty jams for me & u. Play ‘em for your Valentine, or just play em for yourself and have a good day.

Our first track is a bootleg remix of Daft Punk’s Something About Us. Its named as the Eastar Remix, which there is very little known about. But hey, who cares, this track is really good and really fun!

Next up, we have the French House classic and ultimate (?) romance jam, In Love With You. Produced by Alan Braxe and Romuald under the alias The Paradise, this track is full of lush harmonies and a sweet chorus. Very nice track to finish up your set with.

Bonus track! Here’s my remix of soul legend Marvin Gaye’s Sexual Healing which I made a few years ago.

Crank It Up

Hey Bopperz.

Today we’ve got some more nice jams. Both of which I’ve known for a long time, but you probably have never heard.

To start things off is a big disco House tune by The Altered Beast aka a rearrangement of The Eternals. Lots of great energy here and great for the dancefloor. Definitely sounds typical of the French House scene circa 2000 which is exactly what makes it great.

To wrap things up, here is a track by Space Cowboy, who to me will always be a House producer, but has since expanded into high level pop production for folks like Lady Gaga. Its an extended mix of a track off his first album Across The Sky. Sorry about the low volume on this one, but it is a high bit rate so feel free to crank it up.

Filtery Goodness

Hitting you with some filtery goodness today.

Our first track is a cut from the Crydamoure label by Raw Man. It features a cut up rap sample over a very funky baseline. Nice builds and drops in this one.

The next is track is by Armand Van Helden, now of Duck Sauce fame. This track was made in the late 90s right when this sound was new and fresh. So its fair to say that without Armand Van Helden and a few other pioneering cats, these type of tracks wouldn’t be quite as popular as they are now.

Make Love And Listen

Word up Boppers.

Here are some more goodies.

First up is a remix of French super group, Justice, by Chicago based Ghetto House master, DJ Funk. It features his brand of chopped up ghetto vocals on top of a fast House beat with a sequenced baseline. Its a fun track to listen and fun for a mix too.

Next is a remix of the CSS classic Let’s Make Love And Listen To Death From Above. The original is a sort of funky dance jam, where as this remix takes it to epic levels of techno/houseness. The band who this song was a tribute to, Death From Above 1979, as also recently reformed and will be debuting their first live show in nearly 6 years at this years Coachella.

Make Jack Proud

Word up Boppers.

We’ve got some more trax that would make Jack proud.

Our first track is a cut by Sedat from the wonderful label Crydamoure. It features your typical filter house affair here… a House beat backed with a funky repetitive sample and a heavy dose of lowpass filter for the breaks. Nice jam to whip out in a set to change things up a bit.

Next up, we go back to the first generation of House music. Back when Jack was still throwing down on his box and kids were playing with drum machines, keyboards and a 4 track mixer trying to make hits. This is a fun track to check out especially if you like old school House. Its also worth noting that I copped this from a fantastic blog called Beat Electric. Nerd fact: K-Alexi who is a member of Risqué Rhythum Team was mentioned in Daft Punk’s Teachers.

2Nite I Wanna House U

Howdy Boppers.

Today we’ve got one newer remix and a way back classic.

First up is this classic House track from 1987. It features Paris Grey’s vocals along with fun 80s House production. Lots of triggered vocal samples, spacey synth leads, and funky bass all backed with a simple 808 beat. Have fun with this one.

Paris Grey – Don’t Make Me Jack

This next track is a little newer than I like to post, but its great and has a variety of appealing elements. It’s main feature is the ghetto House type vocals cut and layered over a distorted and thoroughly mangled bassline. The drums keep things interesting too thanks to all the breaks and fills (a JFK hallmark). Another great remix by JFK of MSTRKRFT.

Happy New Year Boppers!

As usual, I hope you had a great NYE. Here’s some fresh cuts to start off your year.

Our first track today is by Quartet. Its a slow jam and might be suitable for a warm up set. Features a simple bit, lots of pretty synth work and a vocoder lead. It was released on Kris Menace’s Work It Baby label.

Quartet – Itsnotrock

Next up is a House classic by NY based Masters At Work. It features lots of signature sounds from the House music of this era… Short organ riffs, gated tambourine patterns, female vocals, etc. Nice track to fit into a set if you want to take it way back.

Masters At Work – I Can’t Get No Sleep
