Just goes to show how desperate people are these days when they cant come up with original work on their own.

To any up and coming producers this is a perfect example of what NOT To do. Sampling a loops or one shot of someones work is one thing and most of us do it ( being real here ) but to flat out STEAL a full creation of someone else and NOT give any kind of credit to the creator at all is totally unacceptable.

DJ Hell has some explaining to do on why he took an UNRELEASED track by Felix Da Housecat and Sean “Diddy” COmbs and released it.

…that tooo is unacceptable in the industry…

YOU DO NOT RELEASE SOMEONE ELSES WORK. PERIOD.

So you’re telling people to leave nasty comments on his myspace?

Way to turn an unfortunate situation into something hella immature, dude.

I left your comment up because it’s an important issue. No not telling ANYONE to leave nasty comments. just telling people to COMMENT on it and make sure EVERYONE knows what is up.

And you say unfortunate as if DJ HELL slipped and accidentally jacked Felix Da Housecat & Diddys thing.

its not cool what he did but as for not giving any credit, i do believe p.diddys name is mentioned in the title. also to call hell uncreative, yes he stole an acapella, but you cant seriously tell me his album isnt one of the freshest releases of the year, love him or hate him. i respect both felix and hell infinite amounts so i wouldve hoped there would be a better way of settling this

DJ Hell was wrong for this but wow this album’s been out for months… it was also a title track on what some considered the “best dance album of all time”. It just startles me that you haven’t caught on to it earlier bc honestly I’ve been bopping teufelswerk for quite some time now.

I steal like the best of them! Diddy vocals weren’t that great but his name alone is what I needed.

    seriously
he cut up a shitty accapella
vocal samples are jacked all through out electronic music, I can’t imagine p. diddy didn’t give the ok for him to credit his name
either way its not like people won’t know its him

Did he steal any of felix’s actually production? I don’t think so..

I don’t exactly know what to think of it. What does Diddy say? Did he know about it? On the other hand it’s not the first time that I heard someone accusing Hell of stealing someones unreleased tracks, so I really don’t know what to think of it yet.

Perhaps you should be directing your rant at Diddy rather than Hell? “The DJ” is the worst track on Teufelswerk by a LONG way (even the remixes are terrible!) & I don’t see why Hell would’ve included it without Diddy’s implicit say-so? And is Felix seriously suggesting that he’s NEVER “stolen” another artist’s work? My only concern is why a producer as great as Hell would want to be associated with a conceited jerk like Diddy in the first place…

  17. Posted September 20, 2009 at 8:22 am | Permalink

Very doubtful puff gave him permission.

  18. Posted September 20, 2009 at 9:51 am | Permalink

I’ve already said my piece about this but what pisses me off is some of the comments here that are downplaying the situation like its no big deal. You don’t steal vocals from someone elses feature production and make a new production with the vocals and say its yours, sell it and give no credit/acknowledgement to the source (and I’m talking about felix not diddy because felix made it happen). This is serious it does not matter how good or bad dj hell’s album is etc he’s a thief at the end of the day and should be dealt with accordingly. Yes people steal samples from each other all the time but its one thing to sample and another to steal a whole 3 min vocal and act like its yours and take someones name out. Electronic music is a booming culture and is getting pushed to the forefront of music as we have an influence on almost of every genre of music today. So when you have an innovator and pioneer like felix being ripped off to downplay it is an insult to the artist and the culture itself. Dj hell will be dealt with one way or another.

Agreed and to reiterate I think that is definitely the point some people aren’t getting. Yes, I understand that all kinds of songs are made from samples of other songs..Daft Punks Robot Rock is a great example…but if you listen to the original audio and you listen to Hell’s version its more than just a sample…He pretty much USED all of it..except any of the parts where DIDDY mentions Felix’s name…cuz YES this audio recording was DIDDY talking to FELIX.

I followed this discussion in here. The thing which is important:
who mr. housecat owns the rights on the vocals?
Thats the point for me. Hell mentioned he took it from an old recording. He also names diddy in all his credits. would be funny if he had no permission cuz this track is available in the net for over a year !!
And now when he finally puts out the single with the great remixes you call him a thief, guess you just want to make some of the profit of this release. Its very strange you all just now recognize this track….

anyway at the end the contracts will decide. I just loved this great track, its remixes and also the nonvocal parts ….

  22. Posted September 20, 2009 at 11:25 am | Permalink

Nobody wants to put their name and saying the same shit over and over..dj hell had no right to reuse the vocals and say its his own PERIOD..

    Innocent until proven guilty?

We should wait until P Diddy (the owner of the copyright material in this altercation) says something.

When you pen and sing a lyric, you own that material. Felix doesn’t. He may have had some mechanical involvement with the recording, depending on what P Diddy and him agreed to at the time (probably it was that P Diddy could use it at will to be honest, knowing these things).

Does anyone here truly believe that one of the most successful label owners, a massive DJ, and recording artist, wouldn’t get clearance from P Diddy for this work? It even mentions P Diddy in the track title, which would certainly get the relevant royalty body interested.

Hell wasn’t ’sampling’ the vocal, he was using it as the vocal track. It’s not somehow ‘masked’ that he used the vocal, it’s the whole point of the track.

I think everyone should take a count to ten here, and not ride the wagon of hate until we see what Diddy and Hell have to say…

Remember, this is the music industry, it’s a messy world.

  24. Posted September 20, 2009 at 12:14 pm | Permalink

If allegations are correct than Hell took the sample from Felix..which means the only time Diddy was involved..was when DIDDY recorded the vocals with felix in 2003. And according to many sources Hell didn’t receive clearance from Diddy or Felix. But you’re right lets see what Hell has to say in defense and lets see what Diddy says.

I’ll reiterate something here, for those of you who don’t know about copyright law:

“Legally, songs may only be copied or performed publicly by permission of the authors. ” (Wikipedia).

The author of the work in question is P Diddy. NOT Felix.

I’ve stayed out of this but this is stupid Dj Hell is a retart for thinking he would get away with this, let alone get this past our Boppers NOT COOL. there is no way HELL got permission to use the vocals I’m sure Felix would have found out from Diddy if HELL was going to use the Vocals.. Dj Hell You sir are a jack ass and need to be put n your place are you that lame to have to steal other artist’s work… tisk tisk tisk…

Here’s a question, how did DJ HELL obtain the vocals from Felix? did he reach in the pocket of Felix and take them from there? They were probably given to HELL back in 03 by Diddy or Felix himself so there you have it people. HELL has them now and he got all the fame and with this post and your rants you are giving him even more fame HAHA

  30. Posted September 20, 2009 at 3:34 pm | Permalink

Hell could say that..and it’d only give this subject more publicity. By the way it is no surprise that those who don’t use a real name or alias to comment have nothing but crap to say.

It’s not crap it’s the reality of it all. Where is Diddy to say otherwise? How can you slander someone without knowing from all parties as to who is at fault here?

  33. Posted September 20, 2009 at 10:48 pm | Permalink

First, when it comes to who owns something legally, only the contract knows. If there’s no contract that specifically states the ownership of the sample/recording, then you go to who’s actually ON the recording. However, my guess, is that Felix and Diddy will back one another up, regardless which of them actually owns the vocal.

Second, the only way that this is all ok, is if DJ Hell has ok’d the use of the sample. And, we know he hasn’t. So, he’ll be fined. How much will be determined by Diddy’s and Felix’s management, whomever of them actually owns the sample.

Lastly, for other examples of this type of thing, go look up The Verve and Bittersweet Symphony… They ended up getting screwed out of a LOT of profit from that single, because they never cleared the sample.

The worse part of this, is the crappy song that Diddy’s vocals are on. I’m with DJ So What. That track is pretty boring. Heh.

  37. Posted September 21, 2009 at 8:22 am | Permalink

“Close readers will see that Hell doesn’t outright deny any wrongdoing exactly, but it does respond to the allegation put forth by Felix that “[Hell] did NOT receive any permission from Diddy” to release the record. What this means is still unclear, but we’ve been told by Hell’s management that he will seek to speak directly to Felix when they perform together in Paris later this week.”-(http://www.residentadvisor.net/news.aspx?id=11036)
